Getting Iris
What do I need to run Iris for Mac?
A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer), macOS 26.2 or later and at least 16 GB of memory. The first setup downloads about 4 GB for Iris's own AI. Download Iris for Mac.
Do I need to buy a Mac mini?
No. A Mac that stays on, like a Mac mini, means Iris is always there. On a laptop, Iris simply pauses while it's asleep.
Is it hard to set up?
Open the app and it sets itself up: no terminal, no AI keys. Iris checks your Mac and prepares its AI, then you can sign in to bring across what an earlier Iris account knows, or start fresh.

Iris starts on Mac. Join early access to hear about other ways to run it.
What about Windows?
Not yet. Iris starts on Mac.
Using Iris
Is it as smart as ChatGPT?
It's different. For everyday life, like organising your week, drafting messages and remembering details, Iris's own AI on your Mac is more than capable. It's smaller than the giant cloud AIs, so for really big jobs Iris can ask a more powerful cloud AI, only when you say yes.
What happens if my Mac is off or asleep?
Iris pauses until it wakes. Anything scheduled catches up then.
Can I talk to it from my phone?
Phone access comes with Plus: the iPhone app reaches Iris on your Mac from anywhere, through an encrypted relay run by Cloudflare, which can see that traffic on the way. Your Mac needs to be on and awake. The free Mac app doesn't include phone access, and Android comes later.
Can it buy things for me?
Not on its own. Iris can find, compare and prepare things, but paying, sending and booking always wait for your OK.
Which AI does it use?
On your Mac, Iris runs an open AI model that it downloads during setup. When you allow online help, the provider receives your message and the relevant context.
Can I use it for work?
Iris is a personal product. Employer information should stay in your employer's systems.
Privacy and your data
Does anything leave my Mac?
Everyday conversations, memory and voice run on your Mac. Services you connect, like Google Calendar, are run by their own companies. Read how your information is handled.
Can I see what Iris knows about me?
Yes. Every memory is listed with where it came from, and you can correct or forget it. Essential facts ask twice before they go.
Can I leave and take everything with me?
Iris for Mac keeps your information on your Mac. Review the cancellation and retention terms for any paid plan.
What if Iris the company disappears?
Iris for Mac keeps working on your Mac with the information already on it. Services that depend on us, like phone access and online help, would stop.
